Located in the North-East section of Ottawa, Beacon Hill was part of Gloucester until being amalgamated in the new city of Ottawa. Sometimes referred to as “The Beaks”, “Beacon”, “The Hill” or “The BH”, it is primarily residential built in the 1960’s and 70’s. Beacon Hill North and Beacon Hill South is divided by Montreal Rd. and includes three high schools, Colonel By, Gloucester HS and Lester B. Pearson Catholic HS. Being bounded on the east by the Greenbelt, including Ruisseau Green’s Creek ravine area, to the south by Highway 174, and on the west by the older neighbourhoods of Cardinal Heights (south of Montreal Rd.) and Rothwell Heights (north of Montreal Rd.). According to Canada 2011 Census, Beacon Hill North had a population of 10,693 and Beacon Hill South had a population of 7,312. Notable residents of Beacon Hill are Tom Cruise (actor) and Bryan Adams (musician) who both attended Henry Munro Middle School, Tom Green (comedian) and Grant Clitsome (NHL player).
